Abstract

Background: According to studies, fear of failure causes anxiety in students. According to the motivational-relational cognitive perspective, failure is considered threatening for people and people who have learned the fear of failure are more afraid in the face of fearful activities. Aim: The aim of this study was to designing a fear of failure model based on selfcriticism, maladaptive schemas and perceived competence mediated by competitive anxiety in high school student. Methodology: The method of this research is quantitative survey. The statistical population included the second female high school students in Shiraz, whose number in the study period is about 7420 people. In this study, 361 people were selected based on Cochran's formula. In order to collect data was used Conroy (2002) Fear of Performance Fear Assessment Questionnaire, Thompson & Zuroff (2004) Self-Critical Level Questionnaire, Young Schema Questionnaire (1998), Harter Competence Perception Questionnaire (1982) and Competitive Anxiety Questionnaire Illinois (1990). In order to analyze the data, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (structural equation model) were performed using SPSS 22 and AMOS 18 software. Conclusions: The results showed that there is a positive relationship between selfcriticism and maladaptive schemas with fear of failure and a negative relationship between perception of competence and fear of failure. Also, the study of indirect relationships showed that there is a positive relationship between self-criticism and maladaptive schemas with fear of failure through competitive anxiety and a negative relationship between competence perception and fear of failure through competitive anxiety. According to the findings of this study, it can be concluded that competitive anxiety can increase the positive relationship between selfcriticism and maladaptive schemas with fear of student failure and on the other hand reduc
