Today, saving fossil fuels and sustainable development have become very important and common international issues. Sustainable architecture can be considered as one of the important currents of the present era, which is the result of human awareness of environmental issues, so that preserving energy resources, preventing soil and environmental pollution and reducing energy consumption is one of the most important measures. It is in architecture and urban planning. Traditional Iranian architecture has unique features that meet the climatic needs of each region. The rules used in this architecture clearly contain many new concepts in the field of sustainability. In this article, we describe and examine these concepts in traditional Iranian architecture with regard to the role of energy in sustainable architecture. The research process of this discourse has started from summarizing the definitions and has expanded with the principles, foundations and solutions for sustainable design. The research method is based on library studies and has a descriptive approach.
