Abstract

Duality in Arabic contemporary poetry illustrates the conceptual image of the reality of a nation and the country in which the poet lives as well as the poet's feeling for what the society touches with a new cover. These dualities are sometimes appeared clearly and sometimes secretly. Due to the influence of this event on poet's mind and spirit, it inevitably leaves a trace in the poetry when illustrating new atmospheres and wonderful images. And poets noticed this because poetry is the ability to establish a relationship and express thoughts and beliefs. Muhammad Husayn Al-yasin the Iraqi poet, is among the prominent poets who has turned to writing poems to express his mental state. This study attempts to investigate the aspects of aesthetics that is born in the present era using a descriptive-analytic method toward the duality of optimism and pessimism in the poetry of Al-yasin. The duality that the peot has used is one of the most important topics that he has looked into in his poems and diwans. The results of this study reveal that the poet's attitude toward life has been positive in spite of his pessimistic views on some matters. In fact, his positive outlooks in most subjects outweigh his negative attitudes especially in the poetry of resistance and hope. It is noteworthy that the poet is optimistic despite all the pain and hardships he s has endured.
