Abstract

Non-availability of high quality bulbs in sometimes necessitates use of once-flowered bulbs for production of second yield through re-planting. Application of plant growth regulators may improve quantity and quality of this lower yield. Hence, an experiment was carried out to investigatb effects of benzyladenine (BA) and salicylic acid (5A), on flowering of the Orienpet lily cv. Belladonna in its first re-culture. BA at 25 and 50 mg L-1 and SA at 1 and 10 mg L-1 were sprayed on plants raised from re-planting of the bulbs which had ftowered in previous season and some other with distilled water as Control. Cent per cent flowered plants was observed in all treatments. Analyzed results showed that both growth regulators could improve flower number on flowering stalk compared to control plants. The highest flower number, averagely 3.33 flowers, was achieved with spraying 50 mg L-l BA. BA also significantly increased post-harvest leaf durability (freshness) up to more than 9 days. Neither BA nor SA had significant positive effects on other traits; plant height, leaf number, length and width, flower diameter and its durability on plant.
