Abstract

Kish Island was one of the important political and economic centers in the Persian Gulf between the sixth and eighth centuries. During this period, Kish was ruled by three local dynasties: the Bani Qaisar, the Atabaks of Fars, and the Tayyibi dynasty. The present study seeks to examine the political and economic conditions and developments on Kish Island, during this period, and the factors that led to the rise and fall of these local powers. The results of the study indicate that due to the decline of the Buyid dynasty and the decline of Siraf, Kish became the main center of trade in the Persian Gulf due to its convenient geographical location and the policies of the Bani Qaisar dynasty. The economic prosperity of Kish attracted the attention of the Atabaks, who had failed to expand their power in the interior of Iran, and they seized Kish as the most valuable source of commercial income. The decline of the Atabaks caused the Ilkhans to hand over the administration of Kish to the Tayyibi family. Due to the strengthening of the Hormuz dynasty, the Tayyibi dynasty was finally defeated by them and Kish lost its position in favor of Hormuz. This research was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method and the data was collected using a library method.
