Abstract

This research, titled “Exploring Islamic Approaches in the Poetry of Saqr Al-Shabeeb, a Contemporary Kuwaiti Poet,” studies and analyzes the reflections of Islamic thought and values in the works of one of the most prominent modern Arab poets. Saqr Al-Shabeeb, known as the “Maarri of Kuwait” for his depth and philosophical insight, was a blind and thoughtful poet who, despite the difficulties of his personal life, expressed noble human, moral, and religious ideas in clear and sincere language. The aim of this study is to explore the presence of religious and Qur’anic elements in his poetry and to examine their influence on the formation of the poet’s intellectual and social identity. Using a descriptive and analytical method, and by examining selected poems from Al-Shabeeb’s Diwan, this study discusses the main themes in his works such as monotheism, justice, unity of the Islamic nation, ethics, resistance against colonialism, rationality in Islamic thought, and human dignity. The results show that inspired by the Holy Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet, the poet used poetry as a means of spreading awareness and awakening among Muslims. Through fluent Arabic expression, he promoted values such as dignity, patience, knowledge, and social reform. In facing the political and cultural challenges of his time, he relied on religious principles to renew Islamic thought and strengthen the spirit of confidence in Arab society. From a content point of view, Al-Shabeeb’s works combine philosophical insight, religious faith, and social concern, where literature becomes a tool of cultural resistance and revival of Islamic identity. This study highlights his intellectual and literary position and explains his contribution to the development of Islamic literature. The results can guide future research in Arabic-Islamic literature and intellectual studies in the Arab world.
