Abstract

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) has attracted the attentions as an efficient modulation for wireless communications. Along with its many advantages, one the problems of OFDM is high Peak to Average Power Ratio(PAPR). A variety of methods have been proposed to reduce PAPR. In this thesis, systematic and non-systematic BCH codes are used to reduce PAPR. these codes at the same times serve as error correction codes as well. The analyses and simulations show that with negligible data rate reduction, these code achieve good PAPRs. Non-systematic codes are designed in polynomial or frequency domain. While all the BCH codes with the same length and rate have the same error correction capability, the non-systematic ones designed in frequency domain have the best PAPR. We used the BCH codes over long field GF(2^16). Our motivation to use these codes was that long BCH codes cocatenated with LDPCs serve as error correction codes in DVB-T2 systems. Therefore the proposed techniques in this work can be fruitful for DVB-T2 with small modification in transmitter and receiver.
