This paper provides a theoretical complement to experimental measuring the population of exited d\mu(2s) and d\mu(1s) atoms in (molecular) deuterium. The population of these atoms play an important role in muon catalyzed fusion cycle. The dd\mu*, which is a muonic deuterium-deuterium ion is initially produced in the interaction of d\mu(2s) atoms with deuterium nuclei. The structure od dd\mu* is studied here using the variational method. Through this approach, the binding energies in the ground and three excited states are calculated for the first time. These binding energies are the base data required for calculation of formation and decay rates of dd\mu* ion.
