Abstract

In this paper we investigate the influence of external electric field on nematic liquid crystal systems which doped with ferroelectric nanoparticles as impurities. It has been seen that apply external electric field on the nematic liquid slap causes Frederiks phase transition. In this transition nanoparticles align with external field and distortion in molecules of nematic liquid crystals occur. Adding ferroelectric nanoparticles as impurities into the nematic liquid crystals significantly reduces threshold of electric field for Frederiks transition in comparison with pure nematic liquid crystals. In this paper we apply external electric field parallel to the system, so in this condition we have "twist" distortion. We see that in this case Frederiks transition threshold voltage is smaller than the condition in which external electric field apply perpendicular to the system. This reduction useful for save energy in electronic liquid crystals media.
