STAT5A, one of the transcription factors, is important in mammary glands for its role in modulating an important lactogenic pathway. In the current study, the expression pattern of STAT5A gene was investigated during prenatal, milking and drying times in mammary glands of Adani goats having high and low milk breeding values. Samples of Mammary gland tissue taken by biopsy gun and applied to Real Time-PCR gene expression analysis. The statistical model contained fixed effects of breeding value groups, sampling time and interaction between breeding value groups and sampling time, and random effect of animals nested in breeding value groups and interaction between sampling time and animal nested in breeding value. The outcome demonstrated that all factors affected on the STAT5A transcription levels. The interaction between breeding value groups and sampling times was significant (p<0.01). In high breeding values group, gene expression abundance in milking time was significantly more than prenatal and drying times. In contrast, in low breeding values group, the maximum of STAT5A gene transcription was in prenatal time. These results indicate that the STAT5A gene could be a valuable candidate gene for lactation process and the structure of the gene, specially the promoter region, should be more evaluated in complementary studies in Adani goats.
