Abstract Heavy liquid metals (HLM), such as mercury lead (Pb), and lead–bismuth eutectic (Pb–Bi), have being studied in several countries as potential materials for spallation neutron sources driven by proton or electron accelerator because of a high neutron yield per incident high energy particle. The lead bismuth eutectic is an advanced liquid metal heat transfer agent for transport and space borne fast-neutron power reactors, in particular in strategic submarines, and the lead lithium eutectic is regarded as one of the basic tritium breeding materials of the blanket of ITER fusion reactor [1]. An analytical equation of state is developed for molten heavy metals lead, lead-bismuth eutectic and lead- lithium eutectic alloy in the temperature range from near the melting point to hundreds of Kelvin above that point. The equation is that of Ihm, Song and Mason in conjunction with the corresponding states correlations of Ghatee and Boushehri. The densities predicted at corresponding temperatures and pressures are fairly consistent with the experiment, at most within ±3%.
