Abstract
|
In this research, nano-composite of activated carbon impregnated with titanium dioxide has been synthesized by the method of sol-gel at 400 ?C. Nano-composite characterization was conducted by XRD, SEM and FTIR. The synthesized nanoparticles have pure phase of anatase with the average size of 10.11 nm. Then the photo-catalytic decomposition of Congo Red dye under ultraviolet rays has been investigated by synthesized nanoparticles in the constructed photo-reactor device. Kinetic and adsorption isotherm investigations were performed on the activated carbon and synthesized activated carbon/TiO2 nano-photo-catalysts. The adsorption mechanism was found to confirm to the pseudo-second-order kinetics with a good agreement. Also the best fit of the adsorption isotherm data was obtained using the Langmuir model.
