Abstract
|
Rammed aggregate piers (RAPs) and cast-in-place drilled concrete piers (CPs) are considered as the two systems of the new and common of shallow foundations resistant against uplift loads, respectively. The main advantage of the RAPs compared to the CPs in resistance to uplift loads are increasing the strength parameters and the lateral stresses of the soil Matrix due to the compaction of aggregate materials within the well. This paper aims to study the behavior of two groups of four RAPs and CPs in small-scale with constant diameter and variable length under uplift loads using numerical modeling. This modeling is performed using the PLAXIS 2D software on the basis of the parameters of field test results. The results of numerical modeling are in good agreement with the experimental. Also, numerical modeling and field results indicates the efficiency and performance of the RAPs is better than the CPs.
