Abstract

People with special needs, particularly exceptional students, are a stratum of society that their needs are not well considered. The aim of this research is to investigate the ways exceptional high school students of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province spend their Leisure time, concentrating on their physical activities and sports. In this cross-sectional study, of all the exceptional high school students in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, 101 were selected using Stratifies Random Sampling method. The data collection tools employed was researcher-made questionnaires, and the data were analyzed using Descriptive Statistical methods. The findings show that more than half of the xceptional students spend more than 4 hours a day on their Leisure time, and the bulk of this Leisure time was in the second half of the day. Parks, streets and alleys were their first and second priorities for spending their Leisure time and sport facilities were the third. Most of these students rated the facilities as medium and low-level, and their most important Leisure time activities were first watching TV and then doing exercises. More than 80% spend less than 3 hours a week exercising, and mainly considered afternoons as the suitable time for exercising. Walking, football and running were their three priorities, respectively. Therefore, due to its positive effects on the mental and physical health of this group of the society, it is necessary to encourage them to exercise and provide them with the infrastructure and facilities and suitable plan for doing so.
