Abstract

Travel account is the mirror that reflects social, political and economical life, customs, believes and ideas, acts and behaviors and vicissitudes of the lives of different societies. One of these travel accounts is Ibn Battuta’s travel account which is the illustrative document of many Islamic and Eastern societies in the 8th century AH. During his long journey, Ibn Battuta four times enters “Fars” or what he interprets as “Ajam territory”. In his first travel to Iran, he proceeds to Shiraz and in his travel account he represents a lot of explanation of the city, its buildings, bazaars and customs of people. While reviewing Ibn Battuta’s travel account, this study is supposed to analyze the portrait of Shiraz in the 8th century AH from the perspective of this great tourist, by applying the comparative method based on French School with Imagologie approach.
