Introduction: the purpose of the present study is to determine the role of seasonal changes in the attitude toward leisure time and sport selection priorities in high school students of Shahrekord.
Method: From among all male and female high school students in Shahrekord, 375 students were randomly sampled according to Krejcie and Morgan table. The sample’s personal particulars and the information about how they spend their leisure time in the four seasons were obtained using a researcher-made questionnaire. For data analysis, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Levin and Tukey post hoc test were used.
Results: the research results showed that there was a significant difference between different seasons regarding the students’ patterns of leisure time spending in terms of type, amount and the major activity as well as the interest in the activity (P < 0.05). With respect to the priority of leisure time activity type according to seasons, football and swimming were scored the highest among males and females, respectively.
Conclusion: Since weather conditions and seasonal variations can affect the pattern of leisure time spending in male and female students, it is an imperative for the responsible authorities to perform certain planning for students to fill their leisure time according to leisure time and sport demands and seasonal changes.
