Abstract
|
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and finding alternatives to unsustainable resources are key points for the future world. Renewable and carbon neutral transport fuels are essential for environmental and economic sustainability. Biodiesel from microalgae appear to be one of the best renewable sources that is capable of meeting the global demand for transport fuels. This study reports the feasibility of using pectinase enzyme to extract lipid from dry microalgal concentrate (Nannochloropsis) to produce biodiesel. The treatments were applied on the basis of different enzyme amounts of zero (control sample), 3, 6 and 9 weight percentages per 1 gr of dried microalgae. Comparison of these enzymatic treatments was done by one-way analysis of variances. It confirmed the existence of the statistical differences between treatments. TEM characterization of enzyme-treated microalgae showed obvious cell damages with significant disruption of the cell walls. The maximum of lipids extraction efficiency was obtained 20%. According to the statistical results, the 6% enzymatic treatment was suggested as the optimum amount.
