Abstract
|
In this paper, integrity monitoring methods of fuel rods as the second barrier against radioactive material release in a light water-cooled reactor is investigated. Due to effect of fuel rod defects on operating cost and personnel radiation exposure, monitoring of fuel integrity is of crucial importance. The activity monitoring of fission products to the primary circuit gives a measure of fuel integrity. The types of released material and amount of their activities also reflect the kind and size of fuel rod defects. In addition, some practical related examples for an operating nuclear power plant are also addressed.
