Abstract
In this research, structural, magnetic, and thermal properties of cobalt- based Co64Fe21Zr10Cu5 alloy produced by mechanical alloying were investigated. Structural, morphological, thermal, and magnetic properties of the milled samples were estimated by using x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The results showed that after 10 h milling, a solid solution with iron- based structure was achieved. After 20 h milling time, the crystallite size value attained to about 12.5 nm. The magnetic measurements indicated the soft ferromagnetic behavior of the milled samples. The coercivity values showed a significant rise after 10 h milling time with respect to those for the initial powders. The thermal behavior of the samples demonstrated two exothermal peaks for 30 and 60 h samples. Both crystallite size and coercivity increased for annealed samples.
