Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy based on anger management on response inhibition, negative urgency, and emotional transparency in adolescent girls with destructive mood dysregulation disorder. The research method was an experimental pre-test-post-test with a control group (with a one-month follow-up). The statistical population of the study included all female students with destructive mood dysregulation disorder in the second year of high school in Sirjan in the academic year 1402-1403, from which 40 students were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to the experimental group (20 people) and the control group (20 people). The experimental group received 12 90- minute sessions of cognitive behavioral therapy based on anger management (Patrick Reilly and Michael Shropshire, 2003) for 12 weeks, and the control group did not receive any training. Stringers Emotional Reactivity Index (2012), Lynam Five-Factor Impulsive Behavior Scale (2006), Salovey Transpersonal Trait Scale (1995) and Bruneau-Nero software test were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance and Bonferroni post hoc test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the time difference for the variables response inhibition (P < 0.001, F = 359.84), negative urgency (P < 0.001, F = 125.58) and emotional openness (P < 0.001, F = 387.23). The difference between the experimental and control groups was also significant for all variables (P < 0.001). It can be concluded that cognitive behavioral therapy based on anger management is effective in improving response inhibition, negative urgency, and emotional clarity in students with disruptive mood dysregulation disorder.
