Abstract

Sugarcane yellow mite, Oligonychus sacchari McGregor (Acari: Tetranychidae) is one of the most important pests of sugarcane in Khuzestan. This mite directly damages leaf cells by sucking chloroplasts and weakens the plant. In this study, the effect of molasses, vinasse and Bino2 plant compunds were investigated against O. sacchari in CP69-1062 and CP57-614 varieties. Experiments were performed in field conditions to determine the effect of compounds on different biological stages of the mite and to determine the amount of pol, brix and purity. Foliar application was performed in the fields with a concentration of 2000 ppm for molasses, and vinasse and 1500 ppm for Bino2. Population densities of different biological stages of sugarcane yellow mite including eggs, nymphs, and adult were counted immediately after foliar application, and 3, 7, 10, 14, 21, and 28 days after spraying. The results showed that the population density of different biological stages of sugarcane yellow mite decreased over time after foliar application. Sugarcane molasses showed the greatest effect in controlling the population of yellow sugarcane mites. After that, Bino2 and vinasse had appropriate acaricidal potential and significantly controlled and reduced the population of different stages of yellow sugarcane mite compared to the control. In CP69-1062 variety, the mean population density of mites in control treatment was 55, and in molasses, vinasse, and Bino 2 treatments were 6.48, 26.7, and 15.48 (per leaf), respectively. In CP57-614 variety, the mean population density of mites in the control treatment was 75, and in the molasses, vinasse , and Bino2 treatments were 5.88, 28.77, and 22.59 (per leaf), respectively. Based on the results, the plant compounds molasses, vinasse, and Bino2 have appropriate acaricidal potential and can be used in sugarcane yellow mite management programs. However, more studies are needed to confirm the findings.
