Persian Gulf region had, to a great exten, been under the influence of British defence policies prior to the second world war. After the second worldwar and the departure of the British forces from Persian Gulf, the U.S.A rose to a proper position. During this course of time, the U.S.A attempted to satisfy its own interests in Iran and the whole region through reinforcement of shah’s military power. With shah’s abdication and the collapse of Nixon’s two_ Column policy, the regional power of the U.S.A diminished and the Persian Gulf region was now under the influence of Islamic Republic of Iran. This led to the formulation of new policies from the U.S.A.
This research is concerned with the examination and elaboration of the U.S.A policies in the Persian Gulf region deuring 1978-1991. This thesis has been composed to deal with the question of how Iranian revolution left an impact on the policies of the U.S.A during 1978-1991. The supposition of the present research is that the Iranian revolution led to a change of the U.S.A policies from direct to indirect intrusions during 1978-1991.
