Abstract

This study confirms the high potential of Sargassum and Enteromorpha macroalgae as sustainable biosorbents for Pb(II) removal from water. Sargassum exhibited superior adsorption capacity (89.2 mg·g−1) over Enteromorpha (63.5 mg·g−1), with adsorption behavior following the Langmuir isotherm (monolayer adsorption) and pseudo-second-order kinetics (chemisorption-driven). FTIR analysis verified the participation of functional groups (e.g., hydroxyl, carboxyl), indicating a predominantly physical adsorption mechanism. These findings highlight the promise of naturally abundant algal biomass as an efficient, low-cost, and eco-friendly solution for wastewater treatment.
