The secondary reformer is an important part in the production of synthesis gas (H2+CO) in an industrial unit of methanol production; the secondary reformer consists of two different areas, the combustion area and the fixed catalyst bed area. In this research, using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), different ratios of methane to oxygen (O2/C) in the autothermal synthesis gas production process have been investigated.
The results show that an increase in oxygen causes an increase in the combustion rate of methane and hydrogen, and at the inlet of the catalyst bed, the amount of hydrogen in the ratio of oxygen to methane has reached a minimum of 0.76.
