One of the most important hydrodynamic problem in floating vehicles is a suitable
design of their under body profiles. Flow around these vehicles is two phases. To
study the patterns of two-phase flow, the turbulent and free surface equations must be
solved. In this study for modeling the free surface flows in laminar and turbulent
regimes a development of a finite volume incompressible Navier-Stokes solver on
general curvilinear coordinates system are described. The physical tangential velocity
components resulting from the velocity expansion in the unit tangent vector basis are
used as dependent variables. The Power law or QUICK techniques are used to
discrete the component of the convection flux and orthogonal diffusion terms and an
approach similar to the Upwind technique is used for non-orthogonal terms. The
coupling between the continuity and momentum equations is affected using the wellknown SIMPLE algorithm. The Volume of Fluid (VOF-PLIC) method with
Lagrangian propagation in computational domain for modeling the free surface flow is
implemented. The turbulent momentum equation is modeled by standard k !
equations and the wall function is applied for boundary condition.
