According to international standards and codes, the designer engineers require the precise value of the structural period to derive the spectral response acceleration values. Hence, the more accurate calculation of the structural period, the more precise analysis and design of the structure. The present research work aims to introduce the amended tentative fundamental period mathematical relationship for residential buildings including concrete, steel, and masonry structures taking the effects of non-structural elements into account using the ambient vibration measurements. In this research, four concrete structures, four steel structures, and three masonry structures were studied during their construction process. The fundamental periods of the aformentioned structural systems were achieved through the “Floor Spectral Ratio (FSR)” signal processing technique. To be more efficient engineering computation due to the interaction between structural and non-structural elements, it is recommended that the modification factors of the approximate fundamental periods should be respectively applied as 0.50, 0.60, and 0.70 for the concrete, steel, and masonry structures.
