This study proposes and analyzes what we believe to be a novel integrated microwave photonic mixer consisting of two cascaded quantum confined stark effect (QCSE) electro-absorption modulators (EAMs). A detailed mathematical model is developed to capture the nonlinear characteristics of the system, enabling efficient frequency mixing. The accuracy of the model is validated using Lumerical simulation data. The system's performance can be adjusted through bias voltage and RF input parameters, providing significant flexibility for various signal processing applications. The results demonstrate that the proposed mixer can achieve both up- and down-conversion of RF signals, and can also be configured as a frequency doubler. This work advances microwave photonics by offering a compact, tunable, and efficient frequency mixing solution, with promising applications in next-generation photonic communication and radar systems.
