Application of Automatic History Matching in Upscaling Polymer Flood in Heterogeneous Reservoirs

چکیده
Investigating enhanced oil recovery techniques to improve oil recovery, especially for heavy oil reservoirs, is important. Injecting polymer due to fear of early water breakthrough and poor recovery in heavy oil reservoirs is highly suggested. Appropriate field-scale modeling is a prerequisite for field-scale polymer flood benefit estimation. To simulate the polymer flood process at the pilot scale, effective parameters (relative permeability and polymer adsorption) were upscaled using an automatic history matching method (coupling particle swarm optimization algorithm and Petrel simulator). Oil saturation distribution and polymer front advancement were monitored with time in the 3D simulator at the pilot scale. The oil recovery factor and water cut after 1PV polymer injection were reported 0.60 (6% on top of water flood) and 0.85, respectively. The developed model can investigate different possible scenarios and allows the investigation of various applications (prediction, optimization, history matching, sensitivity, and risk analysis) to provide oil field development.
