Corrosion can occur in various industries, including the oil and gas industry, causing great damage.
In this work, the inhibition of corrosion processes using benzotriazole reagent was studied in a solution
of hydrochloric acid (one molar) on samples of carbon steel. The effect of inhibitor concentration and
temperature on the corrosion rate (CR) and inhibition efficiency (IE) has been experimentally evaluated.
Then, new models were obtained using the response surface method (RSM), and the influence of these
parameters was investigated with their help. The results showed that as the inhibitor concentration
increased from 20 to 150 ppm, CR and IE changed from 5 to 1 mm/y and from 50 to 90%, respectively.
This shows the importance of optimal inhibitor concentrations. In addition, the temperature has a strong
influence on the effectiveness of benzotriazole corrosion inhibition. Moreover, the results of numerical
optimization indicated that the lowest CR and highest IE of 1.024 mm/y and 91.525% were observed at
155 ppm and 25 °C.
