Due to the increasing speed of construction and due to the relatively large spread of fine grains in our country, the shear strength of these soils can be affected by the degree of their initial consolidation. The soil may be subjected to shear loading while the consolidation of the soil is not complete. Therefore, it is necessary to study the time-dependent behavior of soils, especially fine-grained soils. In this study, by performing a direct cutting test on fine-grained soil samples, the effect of degree of consolidation on shear strength of soil was investigated. The degree of consolidation is zero 60% and 100%. According to the results, decreasing the degree of initial consolidation decreases the shear strength of the soil. It can be said that this reduction in strength is due to the continuation of the consolidation process during the cutting test and the production of overpressure of the resulting water droplet.
