Application microfiltration membrane processes using ceramic membranes for treatment of oil wastewaters, due to high economic efficiency and the ability to combine with other conventional wastewater treatment processes, is increasing day by day. Due to membrane fouling and permeation flux reduction are the main problems in this process, in this study the possibility of using chemical cleaning to recover membrane permeation flux of inexpensive mullite ceramic microfiltration process for treatment of oily wastewater have been investigated. For this aim, hydrophilic mullite membrane has been made using extrusion method and has been employed for treatment of synthetic oily wastewater using crude petroleum of Gachsaran and Triton X-100 emulsifier in the microfiltration process. Chemical cleaning of mullite membranes have been done by four types of washes sulfuric acid, soda, SDS and EDTA in different concentrations in one step and industrial vinegar and baking soda to improve washing performance and reduce costs in the second stage is used. The results showed that the combination of detergent SDS and EDTA in a concentration of 5mM was the best combination for washing mullite membrane by a flux recovery of 65% for synthetic oil wastewater treatment.
