Scale deposition in processing systems, especially heated surfaces are a major problem in oil and gas industries. it is sensible to prevent formation of scale since its elimination is extremely costly. In this paper the possibility of using silica (SiO2) nanoparticles for changing the solubility of dissolved ions in Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) regeneration packages of South Pars Gas Plant was investigated. Experimental analysis was implemented by using Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) for measuring the size of dissolved ions during the time as a function of nanoparticle concentration and solution temperature. Decreasing the solubility of salts and enhancement of their crystal growth by increasing the temperature and nanoparticles concentration was observed. The results show that increasing nanoparticle concentration has the same effect of increasing temperature on growth of particles in the solution.
